As a parent coach and family therapist, I am trained to help parents fine-tune their skills to understand and address their child’s behaviors or deal with the stress that may come from lifestyle changes. I offer encouragement and support in incorporating healthy family habits, and the care and gentle instruction to help each family find solutions to their unique concerns. The path towards a happy family can often have a few bumps along the way, and I am here to make your journey as smooth as possible.
I graduated from The University of Texas in 2002 with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Sociology, and went on to complete my Master’s Degree in Social Work with an emphasis on Children and Families in 2004. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas and have specialized in working with parents and families of all types from the start of my career. As a counselor, I began teaching parenting classes and doing parent consults within my first year while working at a shelter for victims of domestic violence, and immediately found my passion for helping parents cope with their unique situations, their children’s behaviors and the day-to-day aspects of being a parent.
Since 2002, I have taught parenting classes and provided therapy through non-profits such as SafePlace and The Family Place. I have also assessed and assisted parents as a Social Worker for Seton Medical Center. Through these different experiences, I have worked with parents and children in the office, in their homes, in the hospital, and in the shelter. I feel that the best results happen when I am able to meet the parent and child where they are at and love the flexibility of parent coaching. I have worked with blended families, families from overseas, families with deaf family members, GLBT families, and single parent families. No matter what kind of family you have, I am committed to helping you find your best path to an enriching and fulfilling experience.
My theoretical orientation is eclectic, as I think flexibility is essential to working with families. The theories that I use the most are empowerment theory, solution-focused theory, Adlerian theory, and relational theory. So what does this really mean? I believe that parents are the experts on their children. My role is to help give insight and ideas when a parent feels “stuck” and to facilitate them discovering how to utilize their strengths and resources.
